An Ohio author who next fall will release a follow-up to her debut, post-apocalypse survival tale, Not a Drop to Drink, will visit the Pickerington Public Library March 15.
Mindy McGinnis, a librarian and southern Ohio author, will discuss the publishing world and her creative process during a workshop at 1 p.m. March 15 in the Pickerington Public Library.
The event is free and open to the public.
Attendees can hear what went into McGinnis' debut book, Not a Drop to Drink, young-adult fiction examining life's struggle in a world with very little fresh water. They also can purchase the book and have copies signed.
Additionally, McGinnis will discuss her second book, In a Handful of Dust, a companion book to her first that is slated for release in September.
"Her first book became one of those sleeper hits," said Amanda Fensch, adult services manager at the Pickerington Public Library.
"Once people found out about it, it really picked up steam," Fensch said.
There is no registration requirement for attending McGinnis' visit.
Fensch said the author is expected to speak for about 45 minutes. The discussion is expected to address challenges facing a first-time author, including hiring an agent and getting published.
"She's a high school librarian and she got a book published," Fensch said.
"She's going to talk about the book itself, what inspired her, why she wrote it ... but also her struggles.
"Mindy's a very nice person. She's very funny and very personable."
Following a meet-and-greet with McGinnis, the library will host survival-themed board games, with opportunities for guests to win books and other prizes.
