Workshop to help youngsters with stage aspirations

Fresh on the heels of a very successful run of Harvey, Pickerington Community Theatre has a busy April planned, with it's popular children's workshop and auditions for its big summer musical, The Music Man, in store for the month.

The Performing Arts Workshop for Kids is for young theater enthusiasts looking to develop skills or simply learn new ones.

The workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 12, in Pickerington Christian Church, 575 Diley Road, Pickerington.

It will be a morning of theater education for those in grades 3-6, said Chris Gallaugher, Pickerington Community Theatre director.

"There are a variety of things kids will learn, including makeup, singing, a dance workshop, how to audition, juggling and theater games," Gallaugher said.

"At the end of the event they will do a short play performance," he said.

Gallaugher said the idea for the workshop came about after significant public demand warranted its consideration.

"We had a lot of e-mails throughout last year asking us if we did workshops for kids, so that kind of got us started," he said.

"We've been doing it about a year and a half," Gallaugher said. "We've done different age groups but third grade and up seems to best fit our wheelhouse."

The cost for the workshop is $20 per participant.

The workshop aims to give students confidence for their next live performance and provide valuable feedback on all phases of the theatre experience, said Gallaugher, who added "it's fun, that's the main thing, we want them to have a fun time."
