The Violet Township Women's League 15th Annual Scholarship Style Show will be a patriotic affair this year.

Decorated with a red, white and blue motif, the style show, Celebrating American Youth," is scheduled for April 26 at the Tall Timbers Banquet and Conference Center, 3831 National Road S.W. in Reynoldsburg.

Doors open at 11 a.m. to allow patrons time to purchase raffle tickets for more than 150 baskets of items donated from local businesses throughout central Ohio and by organization members.

A sit down lunch at noon will be followed by the Style Show and raffle drawings. Women's and men's fashions by Elder-Beerman will be featured.

Donna Brozovich of the Violet Township Women's League said the Style Show is the organization's signature event, with all proceeds going to assist Pickerington/Violet Township area graduating seniors with their college expenses.

"These are our future leaders," Brozovich said.

"We're helping them out, trying to get them to where they want to go," she said.

To that end, the Women's League is awarding three $2,000 scholarships to senior students living in the Violet Township area.

The organization has given a total of more than $38,000 in scholarships over the past 15 years.

Winners of this year's scholarships will be announced at the event.

Getting a front row gander at latest fashions as well as the chance to take home one of the many popular gift baskets are the highlights of the event.

"We have baskets filled with trains, baskets of sweets, baskets for pets such as cats and dogs and baskets for kids," Brozovich said.

Sports-themed baskets are also a big hit, particularly anything "Buckeye" related. Other area teams are also represented.

"We have famous OSU baskets, (Pittsburgh) Steelers baskets," Brozovich said.

"You would be surprised by how many people in the Columbus area like the Steelers," she said, adding "but there's really something for everyone."

Last year's Scholarship Style Show was a big hit, Brozovich said, and she expects a nice turnout this year.

"Last year was huge, we sold 273 tickets. For this year, we're at 286 (tickets) right now," she said.

The Violet Township Women's League is a local non-profit philanthropic organization whose primary mission is to bring women from Pickerington and Violet Township together in friendship and service.

Brozovich said the organization, with 81 current members, takes pride in helping those in need in the community.

"We help people get to doctor's appointments, visit shut-ins, we adopt two families every Christmas and buy presents for them, and if a family is burned out or needs clothes, we round up clothes for them," Brozovich said.

"We help the community in many ways. We try helping everybody who needs help," she said.

Tickets for the style show are $27 each which includes a full meal, four free raffle tickets and a plant.

Additional raffle tickets can be purchased, either 12 for $10 or $1 each.
