Clean cars, full shelves focus of benefit

By

There is no summer break in the fight against hunger.

That's why a group of Pickerington area community volunteers, in conjunction with the Feed Ohio Campaign, is holding a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Uno's Pizzeria and Grill, 1720 Hill Road N.

All donations, in either cash or food, will be directed to the PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington.

"There is also a coupon that people can use that day to buy food (dine-in or take out) at Uno's and 20 percent of each bill will go to the PCMA Food Pantry," said Gessica Peraza, the pantry's director of operations.

Those interested can go to the PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington Facebook page to print the coupon.

Peraza said volunteers are also needed for the event.

"We are looking for volunteers to help with the car wash, to wash and dry and hold up signs. We ask that you also bring rags, towels and buckets with you if possible," Peraza said.

To volunteer, contact Erica Simcox at Esimcox2000@yahoo.com.

Due to the United Way's mandatory "blackout" period from Aug. 15 to Nov. 15, the PCMA Food Pantry cannot solicit donations, however, the pantry can still accept donations, said Peraza.

"The pantry will again be donating Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to those in need. We will gladly accept donations for those from the community and churches," said Peraza.

She said the PCMA Food Pantry, which serves only clients within the Pickerington Local School District, continues to see area families in need relying upon the organization to make ends meet.

"We served 178 families in June alone," Peraza said.

The PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington is located in Olde Pickerington Village at 70 Cross St.

For hours and information about donating, go to the pantry's website at pcmafoodpantry.com or call 614-834-0079.
