Pickerington High School Central's Maddie Martin said last week she was ready to swim and ready to defend her state title in the 100-yard butterfly. At the Division I state swim meet Feb. 26 at Canton's CT Branin Natatorium, Martin backed up her claim.

Martin finished first in 100 fly in a state meet record 53.34 seconds, besting her state championship time of 54.85 last year.

Martin, who was one of four Central swimmers who competed at the state meet, also finished second in the 100 freestyle in 50.86 behind Springboro's Dani Barbiea in 50.72.

As a team, Central finished 15th with 47 points behind champion Upper Arlington (286).
