North, Central boys to vie for league title

The Pickerington High School Central boys lacrosse team can wrap up the outright OCC-Central Division championship if it wins Friday, May 10, at Pickerington North.

That isn't expected to be the easiest of tasks considering the Panthers can win a share of the title if they beat the Tigers.

With a 17-3 win over Big Walnut on May 3, Central improved to 5-0 in the league a year after it shared the title with Westerville Central and Delaware at 5-1.

Last season, Pickerington Central beat North 14-11 as the Panthers tied Big Walnut for fourth in the league at 2-4.

The Tigers were 12-1 overall before playing non-league Thomas Worthington on May 8, with their only loss coming April 25 at St. Charles (9-8).

Against Big Walnut, Devon Maki (midfielder), Brent Walton (attacker), Brad Morris (midfielder) and Zane Kenney (attacker) all scored three goals.

North was 7-7 overall before playing Watterson on May 8 and is 4-1 in the OCC-Central.

The Panthers won for the third time in four games when they beat Westerville Central 11-8 on May 3. Austin Brady (attacker), Logan Murphy (midfielder) and Nick Rollason (attacker) all scored three goals.

North, Central girls also to meet

The girls matchup between Central and North on Friday, May 10, also will have a championship on the line for both teams.

North beat Gahanna 15-3 on April 30 and was 8-3-1 overall before playing Hartley on May 7. The win over the Lions gave the Panthers a 6-0 league record. Abbey Paulus (attacker) scored eight goals against Gahanna.

Central defeated Gahanna 14-12 on May 3 to improve to 6-0 in the league and was 9-4 overall before playing Marysville on May 7. In its win over Gahanna, Gabby Johnson (midfielder) scored four goals and Carly Noel (attacker) and Nessa Petropavlovskiy (midfielder) each had three.

Last season, North won the OCC-Central at 7-0 as Central and Westerville South tied for second at 5-2. The Panthers beat the Tigers 18-5 to secure the title.
