The Pickerington High School North boys golf team is undefeated in OCC-Ohio Division play heading into the final round of the tournament.
The Panthers shot a 295 to win the third round Aug. 28 at Granville Golf Course, finishing ahead of Gahanna (305), Lancaster (328), Grove City (329), Pickerington Central (341), Reynoldsburg (359) and Newark (388) to improve to 18-0 in the OCC-Ohio.
Seniors Scot Sapp and Alex Weiss shot a 70 and 72, respectively, to place second and third behind Reynoldsburg's Darnell Ellis (66).
Also competing for the Panthers were seniors Andrew Ruehle (76) and Zac Goodchild (77) and sophomore Nick Montes (78).
North needs to finish in the top five in the fourth round Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Apple Valley to win its eighth consecutive league championship. The Panthers have won their past four league titles with an undefeated record.
Gahanna and Grove City are tied for second in the OCC-Ohio at 13-5, followed by Lancaster (9-9), Central (7-11), Reynoldsburg (3-15) and Newark (0-18).
Sapp is second in the league with a 71-stroke average. Weiss is third (72.3), Montes is fifth (74.6) and Ruehle sixth (76.3).
Sapp entered the week having shot four rounds in the 60s, most recently a 69 in the Cincinnati Sycamore Invitational on Aug. 17 that earned him medalist honors.
Montes led the Panthers with a 68 in the eight-team Pinnacle Invitational on Aug. 31 at Pinnacle, as North shot a 291 to finish ahead of runner-up Dublin Jerome (295).
Junior Matt Katona led Central in the third round of the OCC-Ohio tournament with an 81, followed by junior Nate Meek (83), senior Rodney Howell (86), junior Andrew Sikorski (91) and sophomore Daniel Dembski (93).
