Having a perfect record through the first three rounds of the OCC-Ohio Division tournament has been among the biggest highlights for the Pickerington High School North girls golf team this season.
The Panthers are 21-0 in the league entering the final round Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Mentel Memorial. Thomas Worthington is second (17-4).
North has won five league titles in seven seasons, including last fall.
“It has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride,” coach Kitty McGrievy said. “There have been some performances that we are all proud of, and then there have been some disappointments.”
On Aug. 13 in the second round of the league tournament at Oakhaven, North shot 345 to edge Thomas (349) for the title.
The Panthers then shot 339 to win the third round of the league tournament Aug. 27 at The Links at Groveport as Thomas was a distant second (377).
Senior Kristin Oliphant shot 76 in the third round of league play to earn medalist honors. She was followed by senior Shayleigh Holbrook (82), freshman Lauryn Oliphant (89) and juniors Rachel Moore (92) and Krista Moore (95).
Oliphant is averaging 78.7 in league play, followed by Holbrook (83), Lauryn Oliphant (87.7), Krista Moore (89.7) and Rachel Moore (91).
The Panthers shot 349 to win the nine-team Findlay Invitational on Aug. 15 at Red Hawk Run as Kristin Oliphant was second (82) behind Gahanna’s Emily Hughes (81).
On Aug. 17 in the afternoon wave of the Panther Invitational at Turnberry, host North placed 13th (344) of 17 teams behind champion Dublin Coffman (293).
“In our second OCC at Oakhaven, we got off to a slow start, and we were down nine strokes to Thomas Worthington at the turn,” McGrievy said. “Our top four went 40, 40, 41 and 43 on the back nine and we won that match by four strokes.
“We also won the Findlay Invitational at Red Hawk Run. It is a links-style course and wind was a big factor that day.”
Tigers have been led by Duncan
Central junior Emma Duncan shot 82 to finish seventh overall during the third round of the OCC-Cardinal tournament Aug. 27 at Westchester.
Duncan has been averaging a team-best 84.3 in league play, which also has her seventh overall.
The Tigers are 3-15 in the OCC-Cardinal behind Dublin Jerome (18-0), Olentangy Liberty (15-3), Olentangy (11-7), Dublin Scioto (10-8) and New Albany (6-12) and ahead of Olentangy Orange (0-18) entering the final round Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Oakhaven.
Senior Christy Conley is second on the Tigers in league average at 96.3. Also competing in league events have been junior Morgan Terbovich and sophomores Caitlin Tarr and Kiera Harper.
The Tigers beat Lakewood 186-197 on Aug. 29 at Harbor Hills as Duncan was medalist with a 41.
On Aug. 17 in the 11-team morning wave of the Panther Invitational at Turnberry, Central was third (379).
Upper Arlington and Worthington Kilbourne each shot 368, and UA won on fifth-player tiebreaker.
