Six Panthers to play in college

The Pickerington High School North football team had six players commit to play collegiately Feb. 5, including one who will play for a Football Bowl Subdivision program in Zeph Miller.

Miller, who was the Panthers’ quarterback last fall as they went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the OCC-Ohio Division to win a share of their second consecutive league title, accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

Dylan Weigel (LB) and Tony Welch (DB) signed to play for East Tennessee State, a Football Championship Subdivision program that will compete in the Southern Conference beginning with the 2015 season. ETSU last had a football team in 2003.

Weigel, who like Miller made the ThisWeek Super 25 last fall, is the school’s all-time leading tackler.

Also signing were Karch Holland (P, Gannon), Chris McDowell (WR, Ohio Dominican) and Geno Rollo (DL, West Virginia State).

Miller, Weigel and Welch made first-team all-league and McDowell made the second team last fall. Holland and Weigel were first-team all-district in Division I, and Miller and Rollo made the second team.
