Three area bowlers will participate as individuals in the Division I district tournament Saturday, March 1, at Eastland Lanes.
Chris Hoyle and Quentin Nietz of Pickerington High School North's boys team, and Abigail Hill of Central's girls team, advanced from a sectional tournament Feb. 21 at Eastland Lanes.
Nietz bowled a 539 series to place 25th of 229 individuals. Hoyle was 64th (497) as the top 20 teams and top 20 individuals not on qualifying teams in both the boys and girls competitions advanced to district.
Neither North nor Central's boys, nor Central's girls, advanced as teams.
North's boys were 35th (2,902) of 40 teams behind champion Walnut Ridge (3,805). Kyle Lee was 126th (396) for the Panthers, followed by Brenden Leas (375, tied for 132nd) and Jacob Smith (341, tied for 148th).
Hill rolled a 389 series, finishing 65th of 192 individuals and earning a berth to district. Also competing for Central's girls were Amber Griesemer (352, 92nd), Bailey Pachuta (301, 126th) and Alexis Wilson (222, 158th). Central did not score as a team.
Jordan Kozak's 453 series (100th overall) led Central's boys, who placed 36th (2,821). Also competing in three games for the Tigers were Steven Gardner (446, 106th), Gared Popp (409, 124th) and Matt Gilligan (377, 131st).
From district, the top four boys and girls individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the state tournament. The boys compete March 7 at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl and the girls compete March 8 at the same site.
