The city will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout Reynoldsburg Sept. 15.

Water account clerk Linda Grinstead said rust-colored water caused by the flushing does not pose a health hazard but residents are urged to check their water before doing any laundry.

No boiling of water is needed.

"If the water is dirty or brown, you don't want to do your laundry, but the water is perfectly safe," Grinstead said.

She said once the hydrants have been flushed it will take two to three hours to clear up any discoloration.

Hydrants on and west of Lancaster Avenue and state Route 256 will be closed Sept. 15-19.

Hydrants on and east of Lancaster Avenue will be flushed Sept. 22-26.

More information is available from the city water department at (614) 322-4500.
