Five programs offered in 2009 by the Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation Department earned recognition last week at the annual Ohio Parks and Recreation Association conference.

Safety Town, a program offered to preschool children, earned a meritorious award.

Honorable mention went to Tumble Kids, Geocaching for Beginners, the Family Night in the Parks series and an exercise program for senior citizens.

The awards were presented during the OPRA conference in Akron on Jan. 24.

Director Jason Shamblin said the Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation Department was among 15 from communities across Ohio to be honored for outstanding program concepts.

"This is an opportunity to celebrate our successes," he said. "We've added some new programs and exciting things and have done good stuff in the community."

More information about the awards will be published in the Feb. 4 edition of ThisWeek Reynoldsburg.
