Chances are you've heard of the Reynoldsburg Area Chamber of Commerce. But do you know what we do and why it matters to you? Today we're starting a new series of columns to help reconnect you with the Reynoldsburg chamber.

If you live, work, or shop in Reynoldsburg, you are affected by our actions. Was your child affected by the recent school levy? Are you concerned about a new business moving into the area? Are you waiting for your favorite store to open a location in Reynoldsburg? Would you like to learn about the businesses that support the community? Would you like to start a small business? Is your place of worship in Reynoldsburg? These are just some of many issues with which we deal.

The Reynoldsburg Area Chamber of Commerce is the community's leading advocate and champion for business. We are comprised of a diverse range of professionals, and in fact, just the other day, I had lunch with the mayor, our state representative, a candidate for the state legislature, CEOs of local businesses, managers, Realtors, business professionals, teachers and city council members.

Such a gathering is common at Reynoldsburg chamber events. At the Reynoldsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, we are united by our passion to support and improve the economic vitality and quality of life for everyone in Reynoldsburg.

Our main goal is to create a climate of growth and success in our community. By leveraging the support, talent and resources of our members, we provide leadership programs and opportunities, as well as volunteer programs and business-building initiatives that focus on the critical priorities of the community.

We guide and support the efforts of professionals who make Reynoldsburg a thriving community. New businesses seek our help in joining the local community. Small businesses with limited budgets come to us for guidance and support, and they use us as their extended sales team.

Larger businesses rely on our intimate knowledge of the community to help them adapt to our local needs. And our schools, libraries and other nonprofit organizations actively work with fellow members to ensure their civic initiatives are economically sustainable.

In order to attract and retain members, the chamber must offer its members value. Here are some of our "Chamber Promises":

Advocacy: We advocate for our member businesses, creating a climate of growth and success.

Economic opportunity: We utilize the resources of our members to develop programs that support local businesses and the economic growth of the community.

Focus: We stay focused on and involved in top business, civic and social priorities.

Expertise: Our hundreds of members constantly rely on each other's expertise to stay informed about issues affecting their businesses, and to learn how to optimize their business practices.

Tangible benefits: We offer a variety of ways for people to benefit, through training sessions, networking, member-to-member discounts, extensive marketing opportunities, discounted health insurance and workers' compensation, and many more.
