Jarrod Martyn recently received his commission to become an ensign from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Martyn is a 2007 graduate of Reynoldsburg High School. After graduating high school, he went on to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In addition to his commissioning, Martyn received a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering.

The Navy has designated Martyn as a student naval aviator. He will report to Pensacola, Fla., to begin aviation preflight indoctrination, the first phase of flight school.

After about a year and a half, Martyn will complete his aviation training and be the pilot of an airplane such as the F/A-18 Hornet, or helicopter such as the MH-60 Seahawk.

A flag-lowering ceremony and the raising of a new flag will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Silent Home Cemetery in Truro Township.

Following the ceremony, members of American Legion Post 798 will join Scout Troop 279 to place headstone flags in remembrance of veterans buried at the cemetery.

All are invited to attend and assist.
