To the editor:

Let me relate my experience with chickens in a suburban setting.

I grew up in a northern New Jersey suburban, bedroom community in the 1940s and '50s. Many residents kept chickens and rabbits as a supplemental food source. Our backyard neighbors had chickens.

There was never any smell or noise. Why?

A limited number of chickens, maybe 6 or 10, no rooster, and the coop or pen was kept clean. This is how you keep small livestock in a urban or suburban setting.

Regulations could be written to this effect. I'm certain the Ohio State University Extension Service could assist with information.
