Chip Martin will resign from the Reynoldsburg Board of Education July 20 because he is moving out of the district.

He turned in his resignation during the June 21 board meeting.

Martin said he and his wife, Susan, principal of Slate Ridge Elementary School, had been talking about their pending retirements, possibly including a move to Florida.

As it turned out, after shopping around for a house and realizing grandchildren were coming into the picture, they decided to build a home in Blacklick, Martin said. Construction was completed in May and they plan to move by Aug. 1.

School board policy requires members to be permanent residents of Reynoldsburg.

"I'll only be three miles from here, and after we've been a part of the Reynoldsburg community for many years, I don't intend to abandon it," Martin said. "I love it here."

Assistant Superintendent Dan Hoffman said after Martin's resignation is official on July 20, the board has 30 days to appoint someone to fill his seat.
