April 13 race will help sex-assault task force
Reynoldsburg City Councilman Cornelius McGrady III is hoping people will support a Race to Eliminate Sexual Violence 5K Run/Walk scheduled April 13 at Scioto Audubon Metro Park, 400 W. Whittier St., Columbus.
The event will benefit the Central Ohio Sexual Response Task Force.
The race is sponsored by the task force and by Climate of Change, a community group McGrady founded to recognize the continued achievements of all ethnic groups and to increase awareness and mutual respect, understanding and consideration of others.
Members of the task force include the Ohio National Guard Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Office; the Sexual Assault Network of Central Ohio; Deaf World Against Violence Everywhere; and the Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization.
This is the second year for the race. Participants can register and pick up packets at 8 a.m. April 13. The advance registration fee is $30 per person, which will increase the day of the race.
Participants may register online at premierraces.com/viewevent.asp?eventID=718.
Spokeswoman Nykita Riley, sexual assault response coordinator for the Ohio National Guard, said in a statement on the race website that members of the task force "are engaged daily in the fight to eliminate sexual violence from our communities."
She wrote in her statement that participants in the 5K run/walk will be "standing up" to eliminate sexual violence and help the Central Ohio Sexual Assault Task Force bring advocacy to survivors of sexual violence, along with awareness and prevention efforts to communities.
Each participant will receive a shirt and a "goodie bag" and there will be prizes for the top three female and top three male finishers.
