The Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation Department’s Edible Schoolyard Project has earned a first-place Award of Excellence from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA).
OPRA announced Nov. 1 that 100 projects around the state were nominated and 20 agencies were recognized with first-, second- or third place-awards.
The awards will be presented Feb. 4 in Sandusky.
Department Director Joe Brown said Reynoldsburg students participated in the Edible Schoolyard Project through a new Camp Adventure program designed to teach gardening during a summer day-camp program and to provide vegetables for school kitchens and local food pantries.
“The effort and passion that was placed into this program, which started as a simple idea, is simply incredible and I couldn’t be more proud of our staff for their commitment to our community and children,” he said. “This program is a true gift to our children.”
