A recount conducted Dec. 4 by the Franklin County Board of Elections shows that incumbent Truro Township trustee Barb Strussion defeated incumbent Dennis Nicodemus by nine votes in Nov. 5 election.
Ben Piscitelli, public information officer for the elections board, said a recount was required because the votes for the two were separated by less than one-half percent of the vote.
Three candidates vied for two trustee positions in the race, with newcomer and former Truro Township firefighter Mike Shirey as the top vote-getter, with 1,972 votes or 37.60 percent.
Strussion was re-elected with 1,641 votes or 31.29 percent, edging out Nicodemus, who received 1,632 votes or 31.12 percent.
Nicodemus has served as a township trustee since 2002.
The board of elections is expected to meet Dec. 9 to certify results of the recount, Piscitelli said.
