Two Family Dollar stores in the Reynoldsburg area were robbed within a week, according to police.
A Reynoldsburg store was robbed Jan. 29 and a Family Dollar store in East Columbus, just outside the city, was robbed Feb. 3.
Reynoldsburg police said they are investigating the armed robbery that occurred around 9:15 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Family Dollar at 6340 E. Livingston Ave. The store clerk said a man dressed in black ran into the store and pointed a gun at her, demanding she get behind the counter.
A second man, with his face covered by a bandanna, then entered the store and confronted the other employee in the store, according to the police report.
The first man demanded the clerk open the registers and drop boxes and started collecting all the money, then discovered the safe and told the clerk to enter the code. The clerk did so, but told the men the safe is on a time lock, so it would not open for a while.
Both men paced around the store and repeatedly asked the clerk when the safe would open and said there would be a shoot-out if police arrived while they were there, the clerk said.
The two men finally "got nervous enough so that they fled out the rear door" with $778 in cash, the clerk told police.
Officers called a Franklin County K-9 unit to try to track the men, but the suspects had apparently fled in a vehicle that had been parked behind the store, according to the Reynoldsburg police report.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Reynoldsburg police at 614-866-6622.
Columbus police reported a Family Dollar store at 3200 Brice Road, Columbus, was robbed at 9:55 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3.
In that robbery, two men brandished handguns. One wore a black hoodie and a blue bandanna on his face, according to that store clerk.
The other man wore a gray and red baseball cap and was described as an African-American, about 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighing 140 pounds.
Columbus police said the men got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a red or burgundy sedan that contained two additional passengers.
