Keeping SCOR

Looking ahead to vacation plans brightens days

By

With all the snow and cold we have experienced recently, we may have lost focus that February has arrived and we are inching closer to spring.

February is Heart Health month and there are plenty of activities at the Senior Center to help you and your heart.

We have extensive health and wellness activities every week. The center offers arthritis exercise, ball exercise, ballroom and line dancing, a cardiovascular workout, Silver Sneakers flex, T'ai Chi, tone and stretch, yoga and Zumba gold. Some classes have an additional cost.

We have had other heart activities this month as well. A program on heart health was presented by a representative from Mount Carmel.

Tugging at our heartstrings was the Daddy-Daughter Dance held recently at the center. To see these little ladies arrive with their daddies to celebrate Valentine's Day is truly touching. Pictures, snacks and dancing were all part of the magical evening.

Speaking of hearts, many of us left our hearts in the Eastern Caribbean a few weeks ago. We visited St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba and Curacao. We were able to see the islands and their cultures through a variety of experiences.

Last week, we had a Town Hall meeting with Joe Brown, director of the Reynoldsburg Parks and Recreation Department. He meets with us quarterly to keep us informed on what is going on in the department and throughout the city.

Here are some of our upcoming events in February. Please contact the senior center for the specific details.

Feb. 21: We will visit Wesley Ridge for a program on "Healthy Cooking for Two."

Feb. 24: Our monthly potluck is at noon with entertainment provided by our own Golden Clefs Chorus.

Feb. 25: We will visit Thurber House and have lunch afterward.

Feb. 28: We will head to the Senior Repertoire Theatre to see The Sound of Music.

Here are some upcoming trips we have scheduled for 2014:

June 15-21: New England Moose Safari and Mountain

July 15-27: Alaska and Yukon by Land and Sea

Aug. 21-30, The Wonders of the West Parks Tour

Oct. 13-16, West Virginia Trains and Scenic Fall Foliage

SCOR is a busy, welcoming and active place. Come and check us out!
