Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival organizers are seeking candidates to be this year's Tomato Festival queen.
Tomato Festival committee member Mike Motz said the annual competition is open to high school junior and senior girls. Contestants must be at least 16 years old by Aug. 16 and must live in the Reynoldsburg school district.
"The Tomato Queen is a highly prestigious festival tradition which began in 1966," Motz said. "Being selected Tomato Queen is an honor and a thrill as she travels to fairs and festivals throughout central Ohio and participates in local civic events, representing Reynoldsburg and promoting the Tomato Festival."
Motz said the Tomato Queen's reign allows her "a chance to meet new friends from other communities and visit other festivals."
Contestant interviews will be conducted Aug. 10, culminating with the competition at noon Aug. 16 at Huber Park, 1520 Davidson Road.
Nominations must include name, address, telephone number, email address, date of birth and school. Past candidates are also eligible, Motz said. Nomination forms are available at ReynoldsburgTomatoFestival.org. Completed forms should be emailed to Mary Motz at austinsnini@wideopenwest. com or mailed to Motz at 1819 Chimney Hill Court, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, 43068, on or before Aug. 3 to be considered for entry.
Motz said contestants will be required to attend a meeting on Aug. 4, at a time to be determined, to review the contest and program expectations.
Official contest rules and regulations, along with nomination applications, are also available online at ReynoldsburgTomatoFestival.org.
