Marco Gualtieri (135 pounds), Sean Prather (152) and Jake Cochran (171) won their weight classes as West Jefferson totaled 174.5 points. Runner-up Nelsonville York had 88.5 points followed by St. Clairsville (82) in third. Heath was the top area program of the 51 teams scoring as the Bulldogs finished tied for fourth with Bellaire at 81.5.

Area teams scoring included Ready at 21st (34 points), Utica tied for 24th (24) with Paint Valley, Grandview 28th (22), Johnstown 32nd (16), Northridge tied for 42nd (7) with five teams and Newark Catholic tied for 49th (3) with Centerburg.

The top four in each weight class advanced to the state tournament, which will be Thursday through Saturday at Ohio State.

No area team had any district champions, but Heath had two runners-up and Utica had another. Mason Robinson of Heath lost to Bellaire's Samuel Faykus 8-3 in the 140-pound title match and the Bulldogs' Travis Drumm lost at 189 pounds to Kaleb Miller of Amanda-Clearcreek 3-2 in sudden victory.

At 130 pounds, Utica's Dylan Wheeler fell to Seth Callarik of St. Clairsville 13-8.

Other state qualifiers included Ready 112-pounder Josh Hall, Heath 135-pounder Dom Barlow and Johnstown 152-pounder Scott Robinson, all of whom placed third.

In third-place matches, Hall beat Coshocton's Zack Cantrell 4-1. Barlow won an 8-0 major decision over Jacob Border of Caldwell and Robinson defeated Scott Kaiser of Martins Ferry 9-5.

Michael Falk of Grandview finished fifth at 152 and is an alternate for the state meet.
