Flanked by U.S. Marines, Dublin Jerome's Nathan Lex (27), Austin Duncan (16), Logan Williams (7) and Justin Cohen (55) take the field for the coin toss before the home opener at Dublin Jerome on Aug. 26.

The Reynoldsburg High School football team used a balanced offensive attack to defeat host Dublin Jerome 31-14 on Friday, Aug. 26, and give first-year coach Buddy White a victory in his debut.

"It's been a long time since we started 1-0 around here," White said. "We ran into some adversity. We weathered the adversity and the kids just kept playing and playing."

Reynoldsburg receiver Mykel Traylor-Bennett had three receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown. He caught a 58-yard scoring pass from quarterback Jordan Aekins with 3 minutes, 23 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give Reynoldsburg a lead it would never relinquish at 21-14.

His 55-yard reception set up a 21-yard field goal by Nick Hedrick that made it 24-14.

"They have to stop playing (Traylor-Bennett) man-to-man and I know that's eventually going to happen because he is very good," White said.

Jerome's first play was a 47-yard completion from quarterback Logan Williams to receiver Cameron Wilson. However, the completion did not result in points as Jerome's opening drive stalled.

The Celtics' next possession ended in Donovan Wilson's 76-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.

Following a fumble recovery by Reynoldsburg defensive end Tyler Plummer, Aekins connected with Traylor-Bennett for a 16-yard touchdown pass that made it 7-7. The Raiders took the lead on their next possession when running back Kumar Collins finished a seven play, 55-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 14-7.

The Celtics tied it on Cameron Wilson's 75-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Joe Bano.

Jerome coach Mark Hundley said he was proud of the way his team battled into the second half, but the Raiders were too much physically.

"They wore us down a little bit in the third and fourth quarter. We were trying a few things offensively and the momentum just kind of shifted and (Reynoldsburg) took it and ran with it," Hundley said.
