The Dublin Coffman High School football team controlled the second half to post a 34-16 victory over Massillon Perry on Friday, Sept. 9.
Coffman closed non-league play at 3-0, and Perry dropped to 2-1.
The Shamrocks extended a 17-14 halftime lead to 24-14 when quarterback James Walsh and Marcus Davis hooked up on a 66-yard pass play with 7 minutes, 35 seconds left in the third quarter.
The duo caused problems for Perry all game. Walsh completed 23 of 32 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 96 yards on 13 carries. Davis finished with 11 receptions for 203 yards.
Coffman tied the game at 7 in the first quarter as Austen Rankin caught a 12-yard pass from Walsh to cap an eight-play, 51-yard drive.
On the next drive, Perry drove deep into Coffman territory but missed a 24-yard field goal. The Shamrocks then went 80 yards and took a 14-7 lead when Walsh hit Davis from 43 yards.
In the fourth quarter, Mark Kendrick put the game away with an 8-yard scoring run.
