Running back Derrick Pope appears in the program at 5-foot-5 for the Mifflin High School football team, and offensive tackle Devon Radcliffe is listed at 6-4.

Together, they played a large role as the host Punchers improved to 3-0 by defeating the Warriors 18-7 behind 108 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Pope.

"I don't stop running until the whistle blows. I don't think I'm ever going down," Pope said. ""I follow (Devon) wherever he goes."

On several runs, Pope disappeared into the line near Radcliffe only to reappear seconds later in the secondary.

Radcliffe was matched up on both sides of the ball against Watkins Memrial lineman Reno Reda, who was honorable mention all-state a year ago.

"I wanted to show him he wasn't going to be all-state in our house," Radcliffe said. "But it wasn't just me. It was the whole left side of our line that made the holes tonight."

Pope's first touchdown came on an 8-yard run after the Warriors had fumbled the opening kickoff and the Punchers recovered at the Watkins Memorial 33-yard line.

Pope also had a 10-yard scoring run in the first quarter for Mifflin, whose defense largely shut down a Watkins Memorial offense that had helped the Warriors roll up 102 points during a 2-0 start.

Watkins Memorial running back Brenden Kemp, who scored seven touchdowns during those opening two wins, pulled the Warriors to within 12-7 with a 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Kemp finished with 89 yards rushing on nine carries.

"Sure, we would have liked to get Brenden the ball more but he was playing both ways and he got tired," Watkins Memorial coach Jeff Severino said. "We have too many guys playing both ways and need to address that."

The second half was largely a battle of field position as both offenses struggled. After an 8-yard punt by the Warriors, Mifflin ran nine consecutive times and Pope scored from the 4-yard line to stretch the lead to 18-7 with 8 minutes, 6 seconds left.
