Running back Terell Stanford rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hilliard Bradley High School football team to a 49-14 win over visiting Mount Vernon in an OCC-Capital Division on Friday, Oct. 7.
Bradley improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the OCC-Capital, while Mount Vernon fell to 1-6 and 1-3.
After an 11-10 loss to Big Walnut on Sept. 30, the Jaguars bounced back in a big way, scoring seven touchdowns, including five in the first half.
“A win like this sets us back on track,” Bradley coach Mike LoParo said. “We had a very tough game last week and it was a tough one to swallow. The kids this week had to rebound and with a good week of practice and preparation, we did just that.”
Bradley didn’t attempt a pass until there was 1 minute, 30 seconds left in the first half after gaining 275 yards rushing on 21 carries by six players. The Jaguars finished with 422 yards rushing on 48 carries.
Running the triple option, Bradley quarterback Conor Driscoll rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and completed 3 of 7 passes for 38 yards and two interceptions.
Stanford picked up his yardage on 11 carries. Blake Scipio returned from a knee injury that forced him to miss the game against Big Walnut and rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Also scoring were running backs Chad Reep, Tony Harvard and Jacob Pugh.
Bradley’s defense sacked Mount Vernon quarterback Brandon Porter six times. Running back Leevi Stump scored both touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets on runs of 4 and 66 yards.
