Fan voting concludes on Super 25 captain

Monday November 21, 2011 10:59 AM

Since 1994, the sports staff at ThisWeek Community Newspapers spent a few hours each November debating which 25 area players had the best seasons. At times those debates became heated, but the end result was a list of 25 deserving players including a captain.

This year, ThisWeek asked area fans for help. From Nov. 4-21, fans voted for who they thought deserved to be the captain of the Super 25 team. The top vote-getter was counted as one vote toward the staff's selection of the captain.

Johnstown running back Ross Franklin finished first in the voting, receiving 36 percent of the votes followed by Olentangy Orange running back Brandon Schoen (34 percent) and Westerville Central quarterback Cody Kondas (24 percent).

ThisWeek's Super 25 football team will be released in the Nov. 24 editions.

Past captains were Westerville South's Jayshon Jackson (2010), Pickerington North's Matt Ferguson (2009) DeSales' Josh Kusan (2008), Hilliard Darby's Jeremy Ebert (2007), Westland's Kasey Wendal (2006), Worthington Kilbourne's Jordan Gafford (2005), Hilliard Davidson's Christen Haywood (2004), Dublin Coffman's Jack Rafferty (2003) and Brady Quinn (2002), Davison's Erick Phillips (2001), Brookhaven's Maurice Hall (2000), Grove City's Nathan Poole (1999), Upper Arlington's Kyle Slager (1998) and Jesse Kline (1997) and Grove City's Derek Combs (1996). Dublin's Nick Goings won in 1994 and shared the award the next year with Westerville South's Andy Katzenmoyer.

Thank you for your participation in voting for the captain of this year's Super 25 team.
