Post 283 wins regional opener

 Zach Beaver pitched a three-hitter to lead the Pickerington American Legion Post 283 baseball team over the Madison (Wis.) Impact 2-0 in the first round of the Great Lakes regional tournament Aug. 9 in Midland, Mich.

Beaver struck out five and didn’t allow a walk. Jacob Horsley hit an RBI single in the first inning and Post 283 added a run in the fifth when Kyle Smith’s suicide squeeze scored Joe Matalon.

Post 283 will play the host team, Midland Post 346, at 7 p.m. Aug. 10.
