E.J. Jennings of the Hilliard Davidson High School football team missed most of last season with a broken ankle.

The senior made it known that he's fully recovered in overpowering an Upper Arlington defense with 316 yards rushing on 35 carries and six touchdowns.

The 42-14 victory on Oct. 5 spoiled the Golden Bears' homecoming and kept the Wildcats in contention for a share of the OCC-Central Division title at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.

UA, which trailed 28-0 at halftime, dropped to 3-4 and 2-2.

"I was down on myself a little bit last year because I couldn't help the seniors," Jennings said. "I knew this year it was my turn to lead this team and I'm just glad we came out with the win."

The 6-foot, 218-pound running back scored on runs of 1, 3, 11 and 2 yards during the first half, in which he ran for 200 yards on 27 carries. His 43-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes, 28 seconds left in the third quarter put the Wildcats up 35-0.

"Over the past couple of weeks he's been getting better in practice, and those improvements have been showing up on Friday nights," Davidson coach Brian White said. "It's imperative that he continue to do that, as well as the rest of us. We told him during the week you better be ready to carry the ball a lot."

Davidson scored on all but one of its five possessions in the first half, including a 15-play drive that wiped out 7:30 of the second quarter and ended with a 3-yard score by Jennings.

"They did a great job of coming out in two tight ends and bouncing things outside," UA coach Mike Golden said. "It was a real smart job by them. They beat us fair and square and they beat us every way you could beat us."

Junior Chris Frey, who rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns, was the bright spot for the Bears. His 47-yard run made it 42-7 with 10 seconds left in the third quarter. He also had a 63-yard scoring run with 1:05 remaining.

Quarterback Kyle Kaparos couldn't find any rhythm in completing six of 23 passes for 65 yards. He was intercepted three times, twice by Parker Foard.
