Westland at Upper Arlington
Jalen Brown stepped in as Westland's quarterback during the preseason when starter Myles Fowler broke the ring finger on his left hand during a scrimmage and has rushed for more than 1,100 yards and has scored seven touchdowns while throwing for almost 800 yards and seven scores. Fowler since has returned to the lineup as a wide receiver and running back as well as a threat on special teams, as he returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown against Liberty on Oct. 5.
UA has survived a rash of injuries, both long-term and season-ending, to find some stability. Kyle Kaparos, a sophomore, has passed for 592 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions and Gus Ackley has rushed for 919 yards on 117 carries (7.9-yard average) and has 13 touchdowns, including one on defense.
*LAST WEEK -- Running back Nick Green ran for 79 yards and a touchdown to lead Westland, which trailed 69-0 in the fourth quarter.
Ackley accounted for three touchdowns in a statistically even game, as Marysville had 322 total yards and UA had 321. He caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Kaparos, ran for a 12-yard score and returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown.
The Bears led 21-0 midway through the second quarter, with Chris Frey opening the scoring with a 35-yard run in the first quarter.
