Columbus Academy, Watterson to meet for state title


The Columbus Academy and Watterson high school field hockey teams will play for the state championship at 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at Upper Arlington.

In state semifinals Nov. 2 at UA, the Vikings defeated Cincinnati Ursuline Academy 4-0 and the Eagles beat Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown 1-0.

Paige Berliner and Alyssa Edwards each scored two goals for Columbus Academy, which improved to 18-0-1 while Ursuline Academy finished 17-1-1. Three of the goals came in the first half.

Watterson's Emily Engert scored the only goal of her team's state semifinal with 28 minutes, 46 seconds remaining off a pass from Stephanie Polletta. The Eagles improved to 19-1 and Hathaway Brown finished 15-4-1.

Watterson received two yellow cards during the second half and was a player down for eight minutes, including the final three.

Columbus Academy beat Watterson 1-0 on Oct. 11.
