Girls Volleyball - Div. III State Semi

Ready advances to state final for first time

FAIRBORN -- The Ready High School girls volleyball team will compete for the Division III state championship against defending champion Casstown Miami East at 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at Wright State University's Nutter Center.

In a state semifinal Nov. 9, the Silver Knights defeated Orrville 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 to improve to 20-8 and advance to a state final for the first time.

Orrville finished 21-8.

Miami East improved to 28-1 after beating Bloom-Carroll 27-25, 25-19, 25-15 in the other state semifinal.

“It feels amazing,” senior Miranda Ball said after the victory over Orrville. “I can’t wait for tomorrow.”

In the third game, Karley Kusan served a pair of aces to help Ready build a 9-3 lead.

After Orrville closed to within 19-18, the Silver Knights scored five points in a row to make it 24-18. During that stretch, Carly Culbertson had a pair of kills and Lauren Rivera served four consecutive points. Orrville then scored three points in a row before Ready closed out the match with a kill by Ball.

Kusan had 14 kills and 23 digs, Dani Mercer had 21 digs and Kaitlyn Keyes had 36 assists.

“Both of our (middle hitters), Miranda Ball and Rose Thacker, have played well the last three weeks,” coach Mike Kusan said. “Our focus was on stopping (Miami East's) two middle hitters, and I thought Karley and Dani played really well.”
