The first two weeks of the regular season featured its share of eye-opening moments in central Ohio high school boys basketball.
On Dec. 8, Northland showed that perhaps it isn’t taking a step back as it defeated defending Division I state champion Pickerington Central 58-42.
Just as revealing is that both Westerville South and Newark each have two losses and that Brookhaven lost to Centennial in what has the makings of a tough City League-North Division.
Among the early standout individual performances were those by Dublin Scioto’s Josh Ashwill (22 points, including five 3-pointers) in a 61-40 win over Westerville Central on Dec. 7 and by Westerville North’s Alex Stewart (26 points) in an 81-69 win over Grove City on Dec. 4.
Games to watch before the holiday break include Africentric at Marion-Franklin (Dec. 21), Hartley at DeSales (Dec. 21) and Gahanna at Reynoldsburg (Dec. 18).
