Reynoldsburg proving worthy of Super 7 top spot

With a start that includes wins over out-of-area powers Dayton Carroll and Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown, the Reynoldsburg High School girls basketball team is looking every bit like the power we thought they’d be.

Most everything else appears subject to change, although we’re giving Africentric and Pickerington North the benefit of the doubt despite some early losses because of their respective schedules.

The Nubians have two losses, including a 55-48 setback to Toledo Rogers on Dec. 8, but their next test won’t be until they face Olentangy Orange on Jan. 5.

We’re keeping Pickerington North in the Super 7 despite a 52-50 loss to Newark on Dec. 7 because we believe Newark is worthy of inclusion in the rankings as well.

Then there’s Northland, which beat Olentangy Orange 69-59 on Dec. 10 in a non-league game attended by various coaches and athletes throughout the area. What they saw was a tremendous performance by Northland’s Alexis Peterson and a Vikings team that should still go a long way despite battling injuries.

Games to watch before the holiday break include Olentangy at Orange (Dec. 15), Upper Arlington at Eastmoor (Dec. 15), Reynoldsburg at Gahanna (Dec. 18) and Pickerington North at Reynoldsburg (Dec. 21).
