Perhaps more than any team in central Ohio thus far, Westerville North has lived up to its expectations.
The Warriors have been No. 1 in the ThisWeek Super 7 all season and are the only team that even made the preseason Super 7.
The only other undefeated area team to make the Super 7 is Northland, which has settled in at No. 2 despite having just one returning starter from a year ago.
Reynoldsburg won a district title last year, but its ascent to No. 3 wasn’t as predictable as it has a new coach and several players in key roles for the first time around senior Wendell Davis.
Dublin Coffman always has enough athletes to be among the area’s top squads, and it is in the midst of another solid season under veteran coach Jamey Collins.
The biggest surprise to the Super 7 might be Dublin Scioto, although the Irish, too, have a coach who has experience getting teams ready for the postseason in Tony Bisutti.
Games to watch this week include Brookhaven at Northland (Jan. 8), DeSales vs. Watterson at Ohio Dominican (Jan. 11), Westerville North at Westerville South (Jan. 11), Dublin Coffman at Olentangy Liberty (Jan. 8) and Newark at Reynoldsburg (Jan. 8).
