Close race for No. 1 between Northland, Westerville North

Tuesday January 29, 2013 1:11 PM

We’re still not sure which team would win if Northland and Westerville North met, but for now we’ll give the Vikings the nod at No. 1.

Westerville North lost to a very good Brookhaven team 69-63 on Jan. 26 in the Ohio Scholastic Play-by-Play Classic, which means that Northland is the area’s only undefeated team. It also handed North its first loss this season and brings Brookhaven into our Super 7.

The other big move occurred with Pickerington Central moving in at No. 5 after getting a huge overtime road win over OCC-Ohio Division-foe Reynoldsburg (60-59) on Jan. 25. The Tigers seem to be a younger version of last year’s state championship unit, so they could be a team to watch over the coming weeks.

Games to watch this week include Bloom-Carroll at Hartley on Jan. 30, Centennial at Brookhaven, Eastmoor Academy at Africentric, Olentangy at New Albany, Westland at Olentangy Liberty and Pickerington Central at Grove City on Feb. 1 and Northland at Olentangy Orange and Watterson at Westland on Feb. 2.
