The Eastmoor Academy girls basketball team built a double-digit lead by halftime and used a big third quarter to defeat Caledonia River Valley 58-38 on March 1 in a Division II district championship game at New Albany.
Senior forward Tajanee Wells finished with 17 points and sophomore guard Imani Hill added 14 points and seven steals for the Warriors, who improved to 21-4. River Valley finished 13-12.
Top-seeded Eastmoor led 32-20 by halftime and outscored River Valley 18-5 in the third quarter. River Valley upset second-seeded Brookhaven 53-48 in a district semifinal Feb. 27.
Eastmoor won district titles each year from 2005-10, but lost in a district final in 2011 and in a district semifinal last season.
“We hit some big shots in the third quarter to get it going,” Eastmoor coach Tia Jameson said.
Eastmoor will play Dayton Chaminade Julienne in a regional semifinal at 6:15 p.m. March 5 at Springfield. The winner will meet Oxford Talawanda, Dayton Carroll, Clarksville Clinton-Massie or Norwood in a regional final at 7:30 p.m. March 8 at the same site.
