Granville’s Massey tops among central Ohio competitors
Granville High School sophomore Jon Massey was the top finisher from the ThisWeek coverage area at the state boys bowling tournament March 2 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.
He was one of three bowlers from the Central District to earn all-Ohio honors by placing among the top 15.
The top finisher from the district was Marion Elgin junior Kyle Hall, who tied for third (643). Massey was seventh (636) and Jonathan Alder’s Jaron Miller placed 12th (623).
In the team competition, none of the district’s three qualifying teams advanced to the championship round.
Newark finished 13th (3,113), Whitehall placed 15th (2,983) and Westerville Central was 16th (2,778) at the 16-team event, as Fairport Harding was first (3,420) after the qualifying round.
Junior Noah Wiley (40th, 554) and seniors Schuyler Wright (49th, 535) Chad Clites (51st, 524) led Whitehall during the qualifying round.
Sophomore Marcus Gonce placed 58th (515) and junior Michael Spiers was 74th (437) for Westerville Central.
Newark was led by sophomore Alex Hoffman (tied for 42nd, 549).
