Thomas Worthington High School junior Leah Carloni was the top area finisher at the state individual gymnastics meet March 2 at Hilliard Bradley.

In addition to placing eighth all-around with 36.200, she reached the podium in two events, placing fifth in both the balance beam (9.250) and bars (9.150).

“It was really fun, and honestly I just wanted to have fun this year,” said Carloni, who has competed at the state individual meet in each of her prep seasons. “I wanted to get a 36 because I’ve been close to that. I improved on two of my events from (the state team competition March 1), so that was good.”

Hilliard Davidson sophomore Erin Finneran turned in a 35.825 that was 13th overall and the second-best score among area competitors all-around. DeSales senior Kate Miltko, who was the district champion all-around, scored 35.00 (18th).

Also competing all-around from central Ohio were Worthington Kilbourne’s Selena Fushimi-Karns (34.800), Upper Arlington’s Mary Kate Keethler (34.675) and Emily Jones (33.950), Grove City’s Erin Maynard (33.400) and Davidson’s Mackenzie Brown (33.375).

Brecksville-Broadview Heights’ Alecia Farina was first on vault (9.900), bars (9.400), beam (9.450) and all-around (38.350) and teammate Michaela Romito won floor (9.700).
