Peterson, Rice voted first team all-Ohio

Alexis Peterson of Northland and Alyssa Rice of Reynoldsburg were selected first team on the Associated Press Division I all-Ohio girls basketball team yesterday. 

Peterson, a 5-foot-7 senior guard who will play for Syracuse in college, was the state’s top scorer at 28.6 points per game. She also averaged 5.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.4 steals while shooting 51 percent from the field (46 percent from three-point range) and 76 percent at the free-throw line. 

Rice, a 6-3 junior center and one of the most coveted recruits in the Midwest, averaged 15.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and shot 65 percent from the field. 

Ashley Morrissette of Twinsburg was selected player of the year, based on recommendations by state media panel. Other first- teamers were Kelsey Mitchell of Cincinnati Princeton, Kristen Confroy of Solon and Keshyra McCarver of Toledo Whitmer. 

Indiana-bound 5-9 senior guard Taylor Agler, who led Olentangy Orange to its first state tournament, made second team. She averaged 15.6 points, 8.1 assists, 4.7 steals and 4.0 rebounds. 

Christy Macioce of Pickerington North, a 5-11 senior headed to Miami University, made third team. She averaged 13.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists. 

In Division II, Tajanee Wells of Eastmoor Academy was the area’s only first-team choice. The 5-8 senior guard averaged 16.5 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 56 percent from the field. 

Amanda Cahill of Clyde and Vanessa Smith of Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown shared player of the year honors. 

Other first-teamers were Ana Richter of Oxford Talawanda, Sabrina Mangapora of Canfield, Erica Dawson of Marietta and Laina Snyder of Millersburg West Holmes. Brittany Atkinson of Granville made second team. Kyleigh Wyeth of Fair-field Union made third team.
