Westerville finishes third in Governor's Cup

The Westerville high school club rowing team finished third in the Governor's Cup Regatta to lead the area's four programs April 27 on Griggs Reservoir.

The St. Louis Rowing Club and the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club each scored 76 points to tie for first, with Westerville scoring 28 points.

Dublin finished eighth (4), Upper Arlington placed ninth (3.5) and Hilliard was last (1) of 12 teams that scored.

Earning third-place finishes to score 12 points for Westerville were its boys varsity 8 stroked by St. Charles senior Patrick LeCorgne (6 minutes, 37.5 seconds) and its girls varsity 8 stroked by Columbus School for Girls junior Meredith Swartz (7:50.95).

The girls first varsity 4 stroked by Swartz was fourth (8:44.85) to score four points.

Dublin's girls first varsity 8 stroked by Jerome sophomore Emily Marshall was fifth (8:05.5) to earn three points. Its boys first varsity 4 stroked by Olentangy Liberty senior Brian Smith was sixth (7:57.06) to score one point.

For Upper Arlington, the boys first varsity 4 stroked by senior Griffith Brown was fifth (7:43.29) to score two points and its first varsity 8 stroked by junior John Masters was sixth (6:54.59) to score 1.5 points.

Turning in a sixth-place finish for Hilliard was its girls first varsity 4 stroked by Davidson senior Erin Rose Shaeffer (10:00.73).
