The Reynoldsburg High School football team used a punishing running game led by senior David Moore to beat host Hilliard Bradley 33-21 in a non-league game Sept. 5.
Moore, a 5-foot-8, 204-pound senior running back who did not play varsity last season, plowed his way to an unofficial school-record 323 yards on 34 carries.
His 53-yard touchdown run with 6 minutes, 54 seconds left gave the Raiders a 26-21 lead that they did not relinquish.
Reynoldsburg improves to 1-1 while Bradley falls to 0-2.
“I just felt like we out-physicaled them,” Moore said. “Much credit goes to my line.”
With 5:43 to go in the opening quarter, Moore’s 26-yard touchdown run to complete a 10-play, 70-yard drive was a sign of things to come.
Bradley tied it at 7 with 9:19 to go in the second quarter when quarterback Tommy Horn ran for a 10-yard touchdown. That score was set up when Tyler Harris picked up a fumble by the Raiders on the Reynoldsburg 25-yard-line.
The Raiders took a 13-7 lead on the ensuing drive when quarterback Jordan Aekins ran for a 1-yard touchdown. That score was set up by a 44-yard run by Moore on the previous play.
Bradley took a 14-13 lead on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter. The Jaguars fumbled the second-half kickoff, but recovered at their own 2-yard line. Horn then broke through the line and ran for a 98-yard touchdown.
Moore scored on a 12-yard run with 8:02 to go in the third to make it 20-14, but Bradley answered with a 19-play, 86-yard drive that was capped by an 8-yard run by Horn to make it 21-20.
In the fourth quarter, a defense led by Corey Beal and two more touchdown runs by Moore helped the Raiders to victory.
“I’m very happy,” Reynoldsburg coach Buddy White said. “The kids were out there blocking and David was running.”
Horn rushed for 174 yards and passed for 73 yards in a new spread option that the Jaguars installed after their 21-7 opening loss to Marysville on Aug. 30.
“It was a lot of hard work all week long with putting a new offense in, but unfortunately we just didn’t finish,” Bradley coach Mike LoParo said.
