Hilliard Bradley's Demias Heard is unable to stop Westerville Central's Alex Fisher as he makes his way to the end zone to give the Warhawks a 6-0 lead during the first half of their game at Bradley on Friday Oct. 4.

The Westerville Central High School football team stormed out to a 48-17 lead at the half on its way to a 69-31 victory over host Hilliard Bradley on Oct. 4.

Central running back Alex Fisher rushed for 130 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries to lead the Warhawks, who improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the OCC-Cardinal Division. Bradley fell to 3-3 and 2-1.

“We can put up points and through all this our offensive line is starting to get better,” Central coach John Magistro said. “That was our question coming into the season. We knew we had Nick (Richardson) and (Jason) Gruber back, and outside of that the rest of it was pretty much young and inexperienced. We’re starting to put it together.”

The teams combined for 21 points in the first 1 minute, 24 seconds, as Central led 14-7.

Fisher had a 28-yard touchdown run on Central’s first possession, but Bradley responded on its first play from scrimmage as wide receiver Trey Anderson scored on an 81-yard reverse.

On the Warhawks’ next possession, quarterback Jared Drake connected with wide receiver Michah Lowe for a 55-yard touchdown and Fisher also scored on a 7-yard run to put Central ahead 28-10 after one quarter.

The second quarter featured touchdown runs of 68 and 90 yards by Central running back Justin Head — which were his only two carries — and the Warhawks led 48-17 at the half.

Tommy Mansfield had a 97-yard kickoff return for Central in the fourth quarter.

Drake completed 13 of 18 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 58 yards on five carries.

Quarterback Tommy Horn led Bradley, rushing for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

“That’s a good football team,” Bradley coach Mike LoParo said of Central. “We did some decent things on offense. We didn’t sustain some of our drives and finish, but that’s a good football team.”
