Led by quarterback Jared Drake, the Westerville Central High School football team rolled to a 56-7 win over visiting Westerville North in an OCC-Cardinal Division contest Oct. 11.

The Warhawks extended their winning streak to five games, improving to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the OCC-Cardinal. The loss was the Warriors' fifth in a row, dropping them to 2-5 and 0-4.

"We came out and stayed focused," Central coach John Magistro said. "We got a lot of guys playing time tonight. Our offense has been clicking. It's getting bigger and stronger each week."

The Warhawks, who led 28-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at halftime, outgained the Warriors 419-117 in total yards.

"We played hard the whole game," North coach Rodger Elander said. "I'm not going to say we executed well, but we played hard the whole time. That's something you can't pick and choose."

Central extended its lead in the series to 5-1 with its fifth consecutive win over North. The Warriors won the first meeting in 2008, 21-17.

"It's a good rivalry," Magistro said. "For the kids that live in the area, it's nice for them."

"It's always a good crowd," Elander said. "It doesn't get chippy. It's kids playing hard. They want to have bragging rights"

Drake completed 14 of 21 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball six times for 43 yards and a score.

"It's unbelievable how he comes to play every week," Magistro said of his starting quarterback. "He's got the right focus and the right attitude every week. He gets our team up. Along with being an outstanding football player, he's also a great kid."

Running back Benny Snell led Central's ground game, rushing eight times for 64 yards and two touchdowns, including a 22-yard score in the fourth quarter to close the scoring. Running back Alex Fisher added 29 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.

Central also had a defensive touchdown, as safety Nate Jackowski returned a fumble 55 yards to give the Warhawks a 49-0 lead in the third quarter.

"It's a good football team, Westerville Central," Elander said. "Drake is a good quarterback and they have enough players around him that you can't focus on one guy. It's a balanced team."

North scored its only points in the third quarter on a 58-yard run by running back Andy Struttmann.
