The Dublin Coffman High School football team rallied with 14 fourth-quarter points to defeat visiting Olentangy Liberty 24-12 on Oct. 25 and remain in contention for a Division I playoff spot.
Senior Defensive lineman Jordan O'Dell recovered two fumbles for the Shamrocks. One of them gave Coffman the ball at the Patriots' 6-yard line when teammate Sam McCollum brought down a scrambling Matt Kessler.
Two plays later, Dre Kendrick scored on a 1-yard run with 6 minutes, 17 seconds left.
Coffman, which improved to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the OCC-Central Division, has won five straight since a 28-7 loss to Hilliard Davidson on Sept. 28. A victory at Upper Arlington in the final regular-season game on Nov. 1 could give the Shamrocks their fifth consecutive playoff appearance.
"I just think after our third loss we all came together and we've got a great group of guys here who have a desire to win," O'Dell said. "We've just been able to put it all together."
Coffman quarterback Ben Beckett completed 12 of 15 passes for 119 yards and rushed 16 times for 44 yards and a 1-yard touchdown with 2:59 left in the second quarter. The score gave the Shamrocks a 10-0 halftime lead.
Liberty (4-5, 3-3) erased that lead in the third quarter with two touchdowns, including Nick Durtschi's 1-yard run to cap a six-play, 67-yard drive with 3:32 remaining in the quarter. Jacob Wiseman caught a 25-yard pass from Kessler with 46 seconds left in the third to put Liberty ahead.
Senior Daryian Davies carried 27 times for 183 yards as the Patriots finished with 206 yards rushing.
Coffman's defensive effort included three fumble recoveries, an interception and a fourth-down stand in its own territory.
"This is a good win for us because of where we've been this year," Coffman coach Mark Crabtree said. "I'm really proud of our players."
