Using a balanced approach, the Ready High School football team earned its first postseason win since 2008 by beating Oak Hill 48-6 in the first round of the Division VI, Region 21 playoffs Nov. 8 at Upper Arlington.
After leading 14-0 by the end of the first quarter, the second-seeded Silver Knights scored four second-quarter touchdowns — including three through the air — on the way to improving to 10-1.
The seventh-seeded Oaks finished 8-3.
“They were hunkering down on the run and they fly to the football and have good size,” Silver Knights coach Joel Cutler said. “Offensively we out-executed them at the point of attack.”
Ready made it 7-0 on a 15-yard run by Myles Fowler with 8 minutes, 40 seconds left in the opening quarter and 14-0 on a 3-yard run by Nickolas Chapman with 57.9 seconds left in the period. The second score was set up by a fumble recovery by Connor Lancia.
In the second quarter, Ready pulled away using its passing game.
Quarterback Matt Yoho threw touchdown passes to Fowler (18 yards), Hunter Clanin (31 yards) and Kelly Culbertson (79 yards) to push the lead to 35-0.
DeAndre Golden added a 7-yard touchdown run with 1:57 left in the half to make it 42-0.
Akili Taylor, who scored on a 7-yard run with 3:41 to go in the third quarter for Ready’s final touchdown, finished with 113 yards on 18 carries.
Yoho finished 8-for-11 for 190 yards.
A Ready defense led Fowler, who also had an interception, in the backfield and linemen Brady Taylor and Chapman allowed just three first downs in the first half and four through three quarters.
“We had a good week defensively last week (in a 21-14 overtime loss to Hartley on Nov. 1) and wanted it to carry over,” Chapman said. “We have a lot of playmakers and any one of us can score at any time.”
