Brian Cross, the only coach in the history of the Olentangy Orange High School football program, resigned Nov. 22.
“It was a mutual agreement,” said Cross, who was 33-30 in six seasons at Orange and is 218-126 in 31 seasons as a head coach. “I resigned, but I still plan on coaching again.”
Orange finished 1-9 overall this season and seventh (1-6) in the OCC-Capital Division behind champion Worthington Kilbourne (7-0).
The Pioneers won league titles in 2009 and 2011 under Cross, and made the playoffs in those seasons. Cross had only one losing season at Orange before this one, going 3-7 in the inaugural 2008 season.
Orange went 9-3 in 2009, 6-4 in 2010, 8-3 in 2011 and 6-4 in 2012.
“Coach Cross did a lot of great things for Orange, especially getting the program started,” athletics director John Betz said. “There’s not a better Xs and Os coach out there.”
Betz said he is accepting applications through Dec. 13 at email@example.com.
