Ready selects veteran Cross as new coach

By ThisWeek Community News  •

Ready High School has turned to a veteran to build on one of its best football seasons.

Brian Cross, who is 218-124 as a head coach, including the last six seasons at Olentangy Orange, has been named Ready’s coach, according to athletics director Michael Rossetti.

He replaces Joel Cutler, who left in January after two seasons to take over at Upper Arlington. The Silver Knights went 19-5 under Cutler, including 12-2 last fall when they reached a Division VI state semifinal.

During Cross’ tenure at Orange, the Pioneers went 33-30, making the Division II, Region 7 playoffs in 2009 and the Division I, Region 3 playoffs in 2011. He had been the only coach in that program’s history.

Cross told ThisWeek in November that he and Orange reached a “mutual agreement” regarding the end of his tenure.

Cross coached Eastmoor in 1985 and 1986 and Grove City from 1987-2002, a tenure that included seven playoff appearances.

He coached Canton McKinley to three playoffs appearances from 2003-07, including a 2004 Division I state runner-up finish.
