The Dublin Coffman High School gymnastics team posted its best finish in more than a decade to lead central Ohio at the state team meet Feb. 28 at Hilliard Bradley.
Making their third consecutive appearance at state, the Shamrocks followed their district championship Feb. 22 by scoring 139.5 to place fifth at the 12-team meet. It represents Coffman’s best state placement since it took fourth in 2000.
Worthington Kilbourne finished seventh (139) and Upper Arlington was ninth (135.875), as Brecksville-Broadview Heights scored 144.625 to win its 11th consecutive championship.
“We finished strong on the vault and beam,” Coffman coach Julie Kayser said. “We picked it up a little bit on floor and just had to regroup a little bit.”
The Shamrocks scored 35.2 on floor as Alexa Markulis had a 9.275, but topped that with a 35.275 on vault, as Markulis scored 9.2 and Nicole Fusco had 8.825.
On bars, Coffman scored 34.650 as Shannon Downie had an 8.875.
Kilbourne had its best performances on vault (35.15) and beam (35.625). Kayla Rice scored 8.625 on bars and a 9.0 on floor and Jaclyn Turner turned in a 9.225 on beam.
UA, making its first state appearance since 2003, scored 35.4 on floor as senior Rebecca Jaskot scored 8.975. Jaskot and Emily Jones each scored 8.85 on beam.
